Y.E.S. (Youth Empowerment Summit)
This year, the beneficiary of my annual Pride Party will be Y.E.S. (Youth Empowerment Summit), a free annual conference for LGBTQ and ally youth activists who are dedicated to racial, economic, and educational justice for trans and queer youth under the guidance of GSA Network. I’ve been proud to support the great work at GSA Network in the past and still believe our future can only be as good as the youth that lead it. After all, their voices will shape future policy and affect the change necessary to elevate the quality of life for all individuals.
The Summit ensures that queer youth and their allies have the necessary tools and information to confront adversity on all levels, whether in the classroom, at home, or on the street. I've had the honor of teaching a class at one of the summits and I also walked away more empowered and inspired by our youth. Times have changed greatly since I came out and to see their excitement, drive and determination to create a better place for themselves is infectious. Join me this June in celebrating the diverse group of queer-inflected individuals who make the Youth Empowerment Summit a reality.
Where we shop, where we eat and have fun - all of it makes our community home. This event is supported by local businesses that care about the cause and the community. Show them your love!
David's 7-year residency at Club Universe in the 90’s is was where my love of deep house music really began. He has gone on to expose the masses to house through his tireless production work and love of the legends such as Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, and Little Louie Vega. I'm so thrilled to have him back to play for us this Pride.
RJ walked into the DJ booth one night at Booty Call Wednesdays and said ``Mom, can I DJ with you?`` I threw everything I had in my book at him to play together and he didn’t miss a beat. He has traveled the country DJing with me and gone on to create his own style. This will be RJ’s first time behind the decks at my Pride Party and I couldn’t be happier.
The local queer music scene is getting a huge boost with Double Duchess. This duo’s live show is a force to be reckoned with and their blend of hip-hop and club / house bangers has garnered fans from the Bay Area and beyond. You better believe these two gorgeous people are going to turn out the Pride Party stage this June.
Miss Rahni NothingMore
Miss Rahni NothingMore
I was so flattered when Miss Rahni added the family name MORE to hers. Since her move to SF in 2009 she has wiped the city clean of awards and trophies, leaving audiences awestruck with her striking presence. Respectful, loving, professional and always inspiring, her performance is sure to be talked about long after Pride Sunday has gone.
With all the change happening in San Francisco I felt it was important to celebrate how vibrant our queer nightlife scene is and always has been. I've pulled together pieces of what I think represents my musical history in this city. I’ve come up with a roster that showcases a broad spectrum of talent spanning decades of music in our community. There’s the legendary Steve Fabus, the inimitable David Harness, the amazing Jackie House, and my talented son Robert Jeffrey. Collectively, these DJs tell a story of where our nightlife has been and where it is proudly going. Performances and MORE! by Double Duchess and Miss Rahni.
Tennessee Loveless started painting 14 years ago and used me as his muse. Since then, his work has exploded onto the scene, ranging from Pop-infused Disney princesses to technicolor starlets and drag superstars. I’m absolutely in love with the stunning artwork he’s produced for this year’s Pride Party poster!
